Shared Hosting

This is a common question. What is shared hosting? When a server serves many websites with different domain names, it is known as shared hosting.

Usually small companies do not wish to spend a lot of money on any dedicated server since it requires the services of a system administer which can be quite expensive. Therefore, to minimize their cost of overheads, they contact shared hosting service providers who will take care of all their software installations, manage servers, antivirus installation, security updates including technical support. Servers can be both Linux based and Microsoft windows based depending upon the company’s requirement. Both operating systems more or less have similar functions.

The only disadvantage is that in shared hosting, companies do not have control of the server and cannot ask for any extra favors. Insecurity levels are high for shared servers. The only advantage is that it can save a lot of money and time and does not require the services of a system administrator.
